This Master's course has been designed to train international trade managers to facilitate and optimise international business transactions and ensure the smooth flow of goods and services with cross-border trade.
The Master's Degree in Export Management and International Trade has been designed by two prestigious institutions, Università degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi and the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade in consultation with international trade experts.
In a globalised and complex context, this Master's has been designed to meet the current needs of the market, aiming to train international trade managers in facilitating and optimising international business transactions and ensuring the smooth flow of goods and services across borders.
This partnership was established with the goal to be able to provide individuals with the best level of education, as well as provide access to a wealth of international trade experience and insight to aid with the success of your studies and development of your career.
To study this Master's programme, you need a minimum of a full undergraduate degree (or above) in a related field, or a Level 5 Diploma plus a minimum Level 6 year long top up in a related field.
Applicants with an unrelated undergraduate degree (or above) and sector professional experience and / or qualifications can be considered for entry via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This will be assessed on an individual basis.
The Master's in Export Management and International Trade consists of six units which are delivered online through a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous teaching:
This module has been designed to provide a broad knowledge and understanding of the conditions under which international traders must operate their business and how business is affected by changes in the political, economic, social, and technological environment both nationally and internationally.
Students will also be provided with a basic knowledge of the law relating to international trade with a focus on the law of contract, sale of goods and agency law. This module will also introduce the basic marketing concept and the principles and practices of international marketing, developing an understanding of the part culture plays in the sales process.
In this module students will be provided with a specific knowledge of the conditions under which international traders must operate their business.
Specifically, the module provides students with knowledge and skills in strategic analysis, market analysis, competitive strategy, global accounting, data-driven decision making and industrial organisation.
The module will provide both theoretical knowledge and operational approaches, through the use of operational tools for strategic analysis that will be illustrated during the lessons.
This module has been designed to provide a broad knowledge and understanding of the role and importance of logistics in an international context. It will focus on areas of international logistics and purchasing processes, such as cost-effective means of exporting and importing, management and planning of customs regulations and facilitation of logistics and supply-chain systems.
By the end of this module, students will be able to maximise the effectiveness of an organisation’s distribution strategy and global sourcing policy and be able to confidently approach UK import and export regulations.
Successful international trade management requires a multidisciplinary approach and it’s importance to stay updated on global trade trends and regulatory changes to adapt strategies effectively. For these reasons, in this module students will be provided with a specific background relating to planning, execution and oversight of activities related to the exchange of goods and services between countries.
In particular, some key aspects that will be explained are related to market research and analysis, marketplace research tools, import and export regulations, logistics and supply chain management, cultural and communication skills, economic and political analysis, sustainability and ethical considerations
This module provides students with an understanding of the keys to profitability in their business, and the most appropriate sources of finance to maximise such profits. Students are also required to evaluate and attempt to reduce the various risks that are common to all international trade, including exchange risk, country and buyer credit risk and to choose and operate the most appropriate methods of payment.
We will also look at the risks in international trade, how they arise and how they can be managed effectively – especially in the environment of international trade where additional risks will arise through differences.
This module will also involve the students to explore how UK Common Law and equity have evolved in terms of judiciary (courts and judges), with increasing input by statute from the legislature (parliament) subject, latterly, to overseas influences – the European Union and international conventions.
Export management in the age of digitalisation has been significantly transformed by technology, making it more efficient and accessible and changing the way to find customs and commercial partners, using digital tools and strategies.
In this new paradigm, Online Marketplaces and B2B Platforms, Social Media and Networking, Digital Trade Shows and Webinars, E-Commerce and Digital Marketing, Virtual Trade Missions and Matchmaking Events, Blockchain and Smart Contracts are just some of the factors that will influence international exchanges and companies’ penetration strategies in foreign markets.
For this reason, knowing those specific areas becomes crucial for setting up a specific internationalisation strategy and being successful in an increasingly competitive and interconnected market.
You will have 12 months to complete this qualification course.
The Master's is organised into 6 modules.
The final evaluation consists of a presentation of the project work in front of the Master’s Scientific Committee.
For this task, students will work independently but, if needed, they can request information from the teaching staff via email.
Furthermore, to finalise the drafting of the project work, each student will
have up to 5 hours available (10% of the project work’s hours amount) in one-to-one meetings with the Master’s faculty. Usually, the length of the project work can vary from 40 to 60 pages.

Enrolled students will be awarded one year's complimentary Student Membership with the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade.
Pay by instalment: You have the option to pay in a maximum of four instalments throughout the year.
