Following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and because of increasing technological competition with China, western governments have increasingly used export controls to curb the trade of military and dual-use goods.
Governments have also tightened the enforcement of control regulations to ensure sensitive goods aren’t inadvertently sent to controlled destinations by third parties. This has resulted in the imposition of fines and penalties for companies found to have breached controls and licensing requirements.
